This project signifies a “rebirth” and that Geass will take a new step. The note is signed with the name “ZERO.”
In the January issue of Gakken’s Animedia Magazine, Sunrise indicated the possibility of more plans for the Code Geass franchise. Sunrise, as we know it, is the one created and animated the Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion Television Anime Series and its sequel.
Before we begin we’ll remember the original story first. Here’s the Plot:
The series is set after Japan’s conquest by the Holy Britannian Empire on August 10, 2010, a.t.b. with their powerful latest robot weapons, the Knightmare Frames, stripping Japan and its citizens of all rights and freedoms and renaming the country Area 11. The titular Lelouch is a Britannian prince who was denied by his father, Emperor Charles zi Britannia, after his mother was murdered, and has vowed to kill his father, the Emperor, and destroy Britannia. Lelouch gains his ability through the mysterious power of the Geass, becoming the leader of the resistance movement to fulfill his two wishes: to seek revenge for his mother and to construct a world in which his beloved sister Nunnally can live happily.
Rejoice! All Code Geass fanatics! After all of your whining, all your complaining and all your petitioning, Code Geass Season 3 is going to hit our television screens soon! I said that because on the January issue of Kadokawa Shoten’s Newtype magazine, it is announced that Tomomasa Takuma (Code Geass: Nightmare of Nunnally, Kurogane Communication) is drawing a manga that is titled Code Geass: Shikkoku no Renya (Code Geass: Jet-Black Renya or Code Geass: Renya of the Blackness) for the year 2010 by Goro Taniguchi, the director and story co-creator of the original Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion television anime series is the one created the new manga’s story concepts and is scripting the story. This is the first time for Taniguchi to do scripting for a manga.
What about the manga itself? The story takes place in the same official Code Geass history as the anime, only earlier: the Japan’s historical Edo era. The title character, Renya, is a 17-year-old boy with a mechanical left arm and throwing a hundred shuriken as his weapon of choice. The story begins when Renya encounters a mysterious, young witch named “Reifū C.C.” who appeared in Japan’s historical Edo era to seek a new partner for a covenant. There’s also a mysterious man, with striking resemblance to the character Lelouch of the original anime, appears with unknown intentions.

>.< i am torn, on the one hand i have my obscene love of code geass. However on the other hand I am severely worried this could suck majorly. If Lelouch isnt the protagonist then I just don’t know how well it could work.
But mention of someone resembling lelouch and C.C. with a slightly changed name has me confused, since its in the Edo period obviously it cant be Lelouch through “normal” means but perhaps the creators will surprise me.
I’m still looking forward to it, just slightly nervous about it
i not sure how this will end but maby it will be a good story plot or just plain off suck….
I really really really hope its as good as the last two seasons and i really also hope theres more romance to it
The 3rd season of Code Geass is a side story set on the European Front.
I hope the characters will be recurring. If the third season will not show the previous characters then there’s no point in making it. BTW, I’m crossing my fingers for a Suzaku-Nunnally teamup.
No Lelouch, no Code Geass. You can’t just substitute such a strong willed, obscenely intelligent and with a magnificently dark behaviour like him, there is no way!
It would be as catastrofic as the killing of ‘L’ from Death Note. And believe me, the viewers were cut by a half after ‘L’s death.
And get out of your mind the idea of Suzaku as the main character, Lelouch is the masterpiece of the show. Revive him or don’t revive the show!

Damn it why in the world is the manga setting in the edo period it should just follow it’s almighty predecessors,damn the world and especially the author of the sequel if ti isn’t great at all!

I agree with most of these comments, and it sucks that this will not be an R3. I put my faith in the people writer/director who made the series great. As long as the writing, story, and characters are as strong as the originals I will have no problem with differences.
This sounds like it’s already set up to be a huge failure. C.C. was an important character, but I could get over her being gone, and forget Suzaku. No Lelouch on the other hand, would make this horrible. He made the whole series! This guy who “looks” like Lelouch better be him using a time machine to go back in time, or at least something to write him into the story, or I’m going to be pissed.

And surely the genius producers of Code Geass are smart enough to realize that they need Lelouch for Code Geass R3: LELOUCH OF THE REBELLION.

I agree with most of everyone. I don’t see how anyone could possibly want Code Geass without Lulu de Brittania. I freaking hate Suzaku but he’s necessary I guess. They need to bring Lelouch back and maybe focus a little more on love and those scenes. *removed spoiler (OtakuSource)*
Also, to whoever made the Death Note comment, it’s true many fans were lost when “L” died. But also I couldn’t imagine continuing the show with him alive. There would have been “filler”. That’s just my opinion. I was more devastated and annoyed when Light died mostly because it wasn’t really because of him. His plan failed because his successor was an idiot. Plus, they could have done more Death Note with Light. Luckily, however, overall it’s definitely one of the best anime.
When is this serious starting anyways? It’s September and they said we were getting it in 2010 early January!

I don’t think ill like this version. I like code geass bc of lelouch’s cockiness and genious. I wanted the 3rd season to be all about him.
i agree Lelouch must come back, and C.C for that matter to, the story is based around them wouldn’t be same without either of them… i really hope this doesn’t turn out 2 be a disaster code geass is a legend among anime keep it that way!

Hey i am also worried about it as well but there is also the chance of nunnally appearing in the anime as the main character instead of a new time period if it is lelouch’s sister the plot/story line could be of her revenge for her brother not knowing why he was killed and than when it comes to it C2 could have found a way to get lelouch back OR he could have survived it all in the first place. like it start off him wakeing up in a hospital bed in a unknown time like 2014 or something and when he wakes have all is friends there who support him through a new jurney to save the world ehe

Ok, there was this huge stupid thing about keeping C2′s name a secret the whole 2 seasons of Code Geass, and in that one episode where Lelouch takes C2 to a cave, they even blank out when he says her name even though they show his mouth moving. And now you’re just giving her a name, just like that? Lelouch didn’t even find out her fake name until after she was shot and came back (btw how did she find him anyways? it’s not like she has a network, the only people she knows are people trying to kill her and Mou). Also, how can the series continue after they were supposed to have achieved a utopia and Lelouch is dead?

I really want Lelouch to be a live and that will be a sweet anime. If he isn’t a live then that will ruin code geass and code geass is my favorite anime. I really like this character and he is like the best one. If he isn’t then code geass will fall down to number 2 and Elemental Gelade will be my number 1. Either way Lelouch is the best and I want him to be alive.
So far, it wouldn’t be unlikely that Lelouch is alive still. (Spoiler-fearing people, beware.) When he destroyed his father, he sealed his father’s code, effectively gaining the power of immortality. This means that he has a high probability of returning to our hearts in R3. However, if it is the interest of the company to create a series where the protagonist is not Lelouch or Lelouch’s set of rivals, then that would ruin the effect that Lelouch had previously placed. His changing the world cannot be complete if set in another character’s point of view. His reappearance is required for this season to be a success.

i hope that Lelouch is also an main charakter which have the power to bring people back. it would be cool if Lelouch could bring Shirly and Euphemia back to live.
How would he bring Shirley and Euphemia back? Where would he search for their bodies? How will everyone deal/feel about his re-appearance? Happy, or horrified? What happened to the people he used his Geass on(Is it still usable)? So many questions for Season 3. I STRONGLY agree with Cold Reality, in that he gained immortality, and his reappearance would make Season 3 a success, but, that would mean his death was a fake. If all of this is true, I hope he’s not hungry. Immortals get hungry, too, I think.

I saw this same plot point of Code Geass and pretty much the same article (only slightly different) on another site. The article was posted on April 1st, 2010
So it was most likely an april fool’s joke.
The anime part most likely isn’t true. But Takuma has said on his website that he was going to start another spin-off of code geass like his Knightmare of Nunnaly series.
Whether it’s true or not. We’ll just have to wait and see.
However, Imo, Code Geass should have more than just one reoccuring character in r3 to succeed. If this is the plot then the “Lelouch lookalike” is definately not Lulu. As this is in the Edo Period. I Doubt that Lulu is that fucking old.
code geass got me started on anime and everything i watched after it is just not as good…so i hope they maake another one with lulu alive…however no he cant bring people back to life or it would ruin the story

This has to be one of the best animes that has been created. I watch a fair amount of anime but I watch it slowly. With Code Geass/R2 I spent my entire weekend watching all of the eps of it NONE stop! I mean for me to watch 50 eps none stop without even getting bored once they had to have done something right! A 3rd season of this anime would be fantastic and I hope that it will go through as I haven`t been able to watch another anime none stop like this show. And I want to know C.C`s past T_T

How exactly would he go about bringing people back to life? We haven’t seen any evidence of that happening at all; only immortal code holders are able to revive.
On another note, if you’re bored witht the rest of the anime out there, I suggest you check out Death Note. I’d say that and CG are the best anime out there. But you’re right — not much else can really compare.
I’ve seen those little videos on youtube, where it shows Lelouch as the driver of the cart — they’re fake. Just take a second to look back at the real episode and it’s obvious. However, when Nunnally touches Lelouch’s hand as he’s ‘dying’, she gets a glimpse of his memories and learns the truth. As far a we’ve seen, only code holders have the ability to connect that way, which points us towards the very real possibility that Lelouch has a code. The code=immortality, meaning that, yes, Lelouch is probably still alive and hiding. That may be wishful thinking on my part, but it’s what I choose to believe.
I have no idea about R3. They can’t possibly just switch the main character on us, not after the interactions we’ve seen between Lelouch and his allies and enemies. I don’t think I’d be able to watch Code Geass without Lelouch.
To you who think there is no season 3 go die immediately you are not fit to watch this show or read the manga. On a brighter note I have read the first volume and it is prety good. If you know when the other volumes come out please reply.

I don’t hope there will be an other version like in Full Metal Alchemist. The new version totaly ruined everything from the first one. There were no more comedy, only sadness, and it just felt wrong. I did not complete watching it eather, it was too sad seeing everything in that way.
I have seen R1 and R2 three times now, and it has been just as good all the times. Started crying all the times when Lelouch died, even though I knew what was going to happend, and I knew that he probably would survive because of the code!

Way better idea for season 3. small terroist force start’s fucking the black knight’s with mega powerful knightmare frames about a 4:1 ratio in strength (compared to the standerd knightmares of the black knights). The leader is another geass holder who can create stuff although this causes him to start coughing up blood and be bed ridden for a few days. these guys start ww4 and kidnap lelouch ( he’s totaly alive) and tell him the truth. The leader of the terroist’s had a vision (lelouch had same vision but just after R2 so he thinks was a dream) of an alien species that first gave humans the geass are coming back and the world need’s to improve it’s military so they can have a chance and war is the fastest way for new millitary tech. so lelouch agrees to work with his. during the final battle between the black knights and the terroist’s ( cant think of name) the aliens attack and lelouch reviels himself to the world. and then it’s time for season 4

Making him now immortal…..PLUS….he made a contract with Sazaku…..ie…..he is now in the same boat as C2….an immortal……most importantly…..the last seen…..C2 was asking a question…..directed at Lulu…..an it is kinda obvious that he is the one driving the wagon with the hay….come on

Lelouch is DEAD! I hate to admit it but it’s true. The code vanishes with Charles(Lelouch’s dad) in the Ragnarok Connection. And if you remember that when C.C. got her code, she loses her geass. Lelouch have geass even after he killed his father right? So that means, he didn’t got his father’s code. But it’s also possible that you have to die first to activate the code. (remember C.C went all bloody when she got her’s probably because of her dying, I don’t know…) I’ve never read the manga so I can’t confirm that. Hmm… THERE is possibility that Lelouch is still alive. Since Nunnally saw the truth from holding Lelouch hand’s, we could assume that only ppl who have the code can do that. However, the creator/author of the story claims that Lelouch is dead… I bet he didn’t saw the hole in his work. Anyways, FACE IT PPL… we won’t have Lelouch in Code Geass: Akito the Exiled and that’s FINAL. The Renya of Darkness is a manga like Suzaku of counter atack and Knightmare of Nunnally so it won’t make any effect in Code Geass’ Anime Fans…

I find it hard to believe that Lelouch is dead. The main reason I question it is because his utopia or “future” was based on a lie. While he may have been able to conquer the world, unify it, then subsequently stage his own death to bring about peace, it’s merely an illusion.
I also find it hard to believe that he would be as naive to believe creating this world would be as simple as making himself out to be the boogie man. Knowing him he would have some kind of backup plan in place or next step, as this could all become unraveled if anyone found out the truth.
There is also much we still don’t know about geass and what it is truly capable of. Whether there is ever a season three or not, I found the show to be great, but far from over, even if the plot that was presented was completed.
